Terrifier 3 Review ( No Spoilers )
Terrifier 3 is a Christmas-themed slasher film, theatrically released in the United States on October 11, 2024. With a budget of 2 million USD and a run time of 125 minutes, director Damien Leone aims to surpass the other two ''Terrifier'' movies. The franchise consists of controversial low-budget slasher films with ridiculously gory scenes and portrays Art The Clown as the killer. ''Terrifier'' doesn't aim to be a high-end horror franchise but rather wants to be a splatterfest, which undeniably is provided by director Damien Leone. Terrifier 3 picks up where the second movie ended and answers many questions that were left open in the second movie.
The best idea Damien Leone had in the production of Terrifier 3 was to set the movie around Christmas. Seeing Art The Clown walk around in a Santa suit for most of the movie is hilarious. Have you ever seen a clown dressed as Santa Claus killing people with a chainsaw while wearing goofy sunglasses? Well, now you have! David Howard Thornton plays the character to perfection and keeps the movie interesting with funny yet creepy gestures and facial expressions. He is the perfect actor for Art The Clown.
A lot of praise also has to go to the actors in this movie, in particular Lauren LaVera ( Sienna Shaw ) and as previously mentioned David Howard Thornton ( Art The Clown ). Lauren LaVera plays her role as the main hero in Terrifier 2 & 3 superbly. Sienna Shaw is portrayed as a character who deals with a lot of psychological torment in this movie. She can't always distinguish between what's real and what is in her head. Lauren LaVera also does a good job in the final chapter of the movie, where she fights Art The Clown. Fight scenes she's in are always entertaining to watch because she doesn't use the help of stuntmen and has over 19 years of experience in martial arts.
The question that always lingers after a new ''Terrifier'' release is: did they go too far? This movie tried to push the boundaries as much as possible. Terrifier 3 features many gory scenes but even includes the death of children and animals. These two aspects cross the line for some people and still are major taboos even in the slasher genre. The movie includes these in a brilliant way tho. Although it is implied that Art The Clown kills children, this mostly happens off-screen and only the aftermath is shown. As for animals, they only use rats because they know the brutal death of a dog or a cat would cross the line for a lot of people and would result in a way less enjoyable experience.
Terrifier 3 continues to push boundaries while expanding on the confusing lore implemented in the second film. The general public and critics share the same opinion and both pronounce this movie as the best of the three ''Terrifier'' films. I'm excited to see how the franchise is going to expand in the future and what the future holds for Art The Clown.
